Burt Stoecklin: It is legal to gamble/play poker...what makes it illegal is when someone profits from it...that is why it is not illegal to play at the bar...no one is making a profit and there is no real cash on the table (just chips) and probably what is won is some sort of prize and not cash...(where I am in NYC they are so strict we can't even play in a bar...but in NJ and Upstate NY we can)...There are private poker clubs (I go to a few)...but they are illegal (to run) not to play...if I was ever there when it got raided I would not get arrested (I wouldn't be treated the greatest, probably handcuffed with the plastic tags behind my back and lying on the floor from what I was told) ...it's the owners of the club that would get in trouble, not the people who are playing......Show more
