why ban cell phones from schools?

We text people, send messages, e-mail's, check traffic reports, telling our parents where we are and what we're doing, for safety reasons, and we even use cell phones for educational purposes all by the push of a button. As technology grows, cell phones will be a link to survival, because there will be built in computers that control how we live. Because of those reasons high schools should not ban cell phones. We need cell phones for emergency purposes. School violence is a problem, and someone might need to dial 911 quickly if they feel like they are in an uncomfortable situation, such as, if they see a student carrying a weapon and no one else notices. Using cell phones and other forms of technology is how our society works today. You cannot ban cell phones just because they might be a distraction in class or can be used as a way to cheat on tests. Hilton Paiva: I think we should be able to have them. I always keep mine in my locker during the school day. The reason they are completely banned at my school is because there are some kids who use them during class.

Johnnie Pummill: SAFETY! SAFETY! SAFETY! Okay, anyone can be walking home from school and be followed by a stranger or perhaps go home with someone they think is their friend and end up in an unsafe situation. With a cell phone they can call for help or a ride home if necessary. Some students can end up left at school for a long time since they can't call. Either that or the school's phone will be used very frequently by students every day after school. This is also the case for when students are coming to the school as oppose to leaving. Renita Sefton: I think that students need to be allowed to bring their cell phones to school, for safety reasons. Many kids walk home every day, or have after school activities and must be able to contact their parents for various reasons.However, I think that all schools should enforce the policy that phones stay OFF during class. Not vibrate, but OFF. Which means that cell phones won't be making noise during class, *and* students aren't allowed to mess with them ("It's not ringing! I'm just texting my friend...")...Show more

These! cell phones are ringing during class, kids are getting text messages d! uring class and this causes the student to not be paying attention 100 percent. Cell phones can be carried in most schools but must be turned off during class time. Also they are being used for drug deals inside the schools. I notice you stated emergency use, well if you needed to contact your child its simple you call the school and within a matter of a minute your child would be contacted via office and vice verse goes for your child.
