My brother is in special education please help?

Woodrow Neyman: One thing I learned is just because the school is in your area doesn't mean it is the best for a child. You have to assess the schools ability to help your brother learn with his abilities, accessibility to the teachers and programs. And another important factor are future goals for him.

Delphine Cajka: Your parents need to get out the evaluation that indicated he had a need that required an IEP. The important part is the end - that lays out what criteria he qualified under and what his needs are. That is what needs to be looked at first -! they should then schedule a meeting with the school Special Education teacher to ask some questions to better understand why he qualified for Specialized instruction. Keep in mind however that your brother 'comprehending' and home is very different than 'comprehending' at school and learning to apply what you have learned. So ask questions and listen and then decide what to do. It sounds to me like you are advising them maybe because you think that your brother getting extra help reflects on you in some way....Show more
