Barton Morfee: It first depends on WHICH Tivo you have. The Series 1 Tivo's (Older Model) is the ONLY Tivo that can be used as JUST a Digital Recorder. The Series 2 and Series 3 units MUST have a VALID subscription to Record, Play the already recorded shows.Next I am NOT sure if it would even work for you since I am guessing that Malaysia probably uses PAL signals, and NOT the NTSC signals that are used in North America. The Tuners inside Tivo are NTSC Tuners so they will most likely NOT work anywhere else.
